Choppers for Shoppers
Sunday 18TH June Roadrunners Fundraiser for Shopmobility St Albans.
Our Dept. Rep Simon Rapkin is also involved heavily with St Alban’s Shopmobility, and as they have recently lost all local council funding he decided to set up an amazing Choppers for Shoppers event to raise some much-needed money. In no time at all he managed to get the event sponsored by Sketchers, secure the prime market pitch at the St Albans market on the 2 Saturdays leading up to the event, was doing interviews on Mix FM and 3 Counties Radio, got in the local press, persuaded the local councilor and local MP to attend and even managed to arrange a blessing at St Albans Abbey!! On the 10th and 17th we were there raising awareness of the event and encouraging people to come along, lots of pictures of kids (and dads) sitting on the bikes all while raising some money. The event all came together on the 18th, we had 4 bike clubs including VSOC C13 Roadrunners with about 60 bikes and 45 mobility scooters. We split into two groups and each lead off by mobility scooters and followed very slowly by the bikes. We visited 14 pubs in total collecting charity buckets before heading to the Abbey for the blessing. So far the total raised is around £3000 which will be a great help to Shopmobility. Keep an eye out for their world record attempt later in the year where they hope to have 200 mobility scooters all riding at once through the town!!
